Shelves in the studio filled with work that has been fired once. The first firing is called "Bisque" with the kiln temperature usually reaching 1,700 degrees. The clay body at this stage is still very porous and fragile.
The next step will be to apply glaze to the bisque fired clay pieces. The pieces are then fired a second time after the glaze application. The glaze firing will melt the glaze onto the clay and vitrify the clay body. The second firing usually reaches 2,200 degrees and lasts twelve hours.
