I am a ceramic artist who creates wheel thrown and hand built, one of a kind, functional pottery. The forms reflect my love of fine cooking, gardening and nature.
I use porcelain and stoneware clays to create my ceramic forms. The clay is high fired using a gas kiln that is capable of achieving a wide range of glaze surfaces and colors. Some of my glazes reference historic Japanese glazes. Many of my pieces have drawings and sculptural additions or alterations to the base form.
The strong visual aesthetic and functionality of my ceramics reflects my environmental graphic design and exhibit design background. I'm an internationally renown and award winning designer who owned a Chicago design firm, Carol Naughton + Associates.
My studio is located in a remodeled 1876 stone Granary on a beautiful farm in the Driftless region of Southwest Wisconsin. The historic limestone construction and colors of the granary are reflected in my clay and glaze choices.
The Fall Art Tour was great last year. Sunny, warm weather, beautiful fall colors, so many visitors to my studio, and so many interesting conversations about ceramics. It is nice to be able to have our Tour event filled with smiles, laughter, and interest.
This year, 2026, I am taking a one-year sabbatical from the Fall Art Tour. This is my 18th year on our area Tour, and I have loved every one of them and all the visitors to my studio that have become friends.
I am concentrating this year on my ceramics glazing research and glaze development. Since I mix up and develop all of my own glazes, this is an area of interest that I’m excited to continue learning and understanding the science of glaze chemistry.
To observe how a glaze will melt and define a form’s shape; to observe the depth of a glaze and its matte or reflecting qualities; to develop noticeable color variations that occur by adjusting a few grams of an oxide; to see how a glaze will interact with different clay body components when they are fired. I find this research and testing rewarding and look forward to the continuing adventure.
I will be at the studio working, please stop by to visit. I will have work for sale at the studio throughout the year. Please call in advance:

I look forward once again to visiting and sharing my studio space, my new work, and our lives with the Fall Art Tour friends who visit, old and new in 2027. Thank you for your continued support.
